CCRP Platform 2020

Submit Your Platform ideas

The CCRP Platform should remain short and sweet as well as offer common sense / populist positions that attract
more participation from Clark County voters… not just Republicans. We believe 10 planks should be the most
so that the general public may know what it means to be a Republican in 2022.

MISSION STATEMENT

The Clark County Republican Party exists to unify and educate citizens regarding current political issues and successfully motivate them through a call to action to elect Republican candidates. We will achieve this through outreach and alignment of all local Republican groups and individuals creating and communicating a common platform of principles and goals, encouraging citizens to donate and hold key official positions focused on driving voter turnout and insuring election integrity.

The Republican Party is built on America works best and America prospers when individuals and families can maintain their independence from government.

PLANK #1 – Political Discourse

We believe that Americans are a united people coming from diverse backgrounds. This diversity is a core strength of Clark County, Nevada and the United States of America. We support a more civil and robust public discourse that permits a free exchange of ideas and open, uncensored
debate.

PLANK #2 – Taxation, Economy and Budget

We believe that joining free-market principles with limited government regulation and reduced taxation is the best way to promote growth and
economic prosperity. We oppose adoption of a Nevada state income tax. We oppose increased Clark County sales, property, and local taxes. Local government policy should mirror President Trump’s call for reduced bureaucracy. We support policies that limit government spending. Interest rates should remain low to promote investment and ease of debt repayment. We support a balanced budget amendment to the U.S. Constitution.

PLANK #3 – Healthcare

We embrace all efforts to reduce the cost of healthcare, improve provider choice, and increase the quality of healthcare through free-market principles and limiting government regulation. We support the development of medical districts in order to supply more providers of healthcare services and to stimulate our local economy.

PLANK #4 – Education

Quality education is vital to all Nevadans’ future and can be accomplished by decreasing federal, state, and local bureaucracies, while increasing accountability and transparency. We support protecting parental choice by funding Opportunity Scholarships and Education Savings Accounts. This allows families to choose from a variety of options including public, charter, magnet, and private schools, or home schooling. These programs will ensure all students, and especially underserved communities, have opportunities for quality education that adequately prepares them for a modern economy through vocational training, technical schools or college.

PLANK #5 – Immigration

We embrace our history as a nation of immigrants. We welcome people from all cultures and races who support the Constitution of the United States. We support merit-based legal immigration from all nations, encourage the improvement of existing immigration laws, recommend developing paths to citizenship for those who were brought to the country as children, and support properly securing our borders and all points of entry. We reject policies that undermine law enforcement’s ability to protect US citizens.

PLANK #6 – Labor and Employment

We support robust and effective unions; however, we oppose mandatory union membership. Union members’ dues should not be used to influence elections. Employees in taxpayer-funded positions should never be authorized to strike. We oppose federal minimum wage laws as this is a state issue. We support the mandatory use of E-Verify to protect the American workforce, which will increase wages for every American worker.

PLANK #7 – Elections

We stand for free and fair elections. Clark County and the State of Nevada must improve the voting process, including but not limited to the following: government-issued identification must be checked before anyone votes; the Nevada Secretary of State and Clark County Registrar of voters shall routinely audit voter rolls; and, poll workers shall receive more intensive training, more rigorous testing, and receive higher compensation to increase the quality of applicants. We also oppose same-day voter registration, DMV voter registration, ballot harvesting, and mail-in voting (except for absentee ballots) due to the potential for fraud.

PLANK #8 – Support for Israel

We call for support of Israel, starting with the embrace of our local Jewish community. Like the United States of America, the modern state of Israel is an exceptional country, born from the aspiration for freedom, and stands out among the nations as a beacon of democracy and humanity. It is the only country in the Middle East where freedom of speech and religion are found. Support for Israel is an expression of Americanism. We call upon our government to advance policies that reflect Americans’ strong desire for a relationship between the United States and Israel.

PLANK #9 – Energy and Environment

We are grateful for Nevada’s abundant natural resources and beautiful public lands. Our environment must be protected and preserved. We strongly defend American leadership in the use of fossil fuels. Market forces should be the driving factor for the vigorous pursuit of renewable, lower emission, and cleaner sources of energy. We support private research, investment, and the elimination of regulations that encourage development of renewable energy technologies and create jobs.

PLANK #10 – National Security

As Clark County is a premier global tourism destination, we must protect our citizens and visitors from any threat to their safety and well-being. We believe that the United States must be prepared to defend its borders against any adversary who would attack or use terror to inflict harm. Terrorism is a clear and present danger to the United States. We must exercise peace through strength using the full spectrum of military and economic capabilities. As a matter of national security policy, it is imperative that the United States Dollar remain the primary trading currency of the world.

PLANK #11 – Right to Life

We assert the sanctity of human life and affirm that the unborn child has a fundamental right to life which cannot be infringed. We support a human life amendment to the U.S. Constitution. We endorse legislation to make clear that the Fourteenth Amendment’s protections apply to the unborn. In order to protect the conscience of American taxpayers, we call for a permanent ban on federal funding and subsidies for abortions.

PLANK #12 – The Judiciary

The meaning of the Constitution as amended does not evolve with time. We call for the appointment of jurists to the Appellate Courts and the Supreme Court who are originalist in their interpretation of the fundamental law of our land.

PLANK #13 – Criminal Justice Reform

We believe the criminal justice system requires reform to allow citizens a second chance at reentering and contributing to their communities as law abiding citizens. We applaud the FIRST STEP Act signed into law by President Trump. We support the President’s strong stance on clemency, rehabilitation, and lowering mandatory minimum sentences for low level crimes.

PLANK #14 – Freedom of Religion

We reject the efforts of those who seek to eliminate, denigrate, trivialize or otherwise dilute the importance of religion, faith and/or conscience from our society. We strongly support Nevadans’ First Amendment right to freedom of religion.
